Privacy Notice
Last updated August 2026
Homeschooling Smart is a small independent site operated by Valerie Tinsman. We collect as little information as possible — only what is needed to give you an account and deliver the printables you buy.
Who we are
This site is operated by Valerie Tinsman, trading as Homeschooling Smart. Valerie Tinsman is the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this notice, and decides how and why it is processed. You can reach us at behomeschoolingsmart@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we store your email address, login credentials (held in hashed form by our authentication provider) and, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile information Google shares (name and email).
Purchase records. We store which products you bought, the order reference and customer reference from our payment processor, your order email, and the date. We never see or store your card details.
Support messages. If you email us, we keep the message and your address so we can reply.
Technical data. Our hosting provider logs standard technical information such as IP address, browser type and request time to keep the site secure and working.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Paddle.com, our merchant of record. Paddle collects the billing and card details needed to complete your purchase and handle tax. Their privacy notice applies to that processing.
Legal basis for processing
Performance of a contract — creating your account, taking your order, delivering your files and providing your library and support.
Legitimate interests — keeping the site and accounts secure, preventing fraud and abuse, and understanding basic technical performance.
Legal obligation — retaining records needed for tax and accounting purposes.
Consent — any optional marketing email, which you can withdraw at any time by replying to ask us to stop.
How we use it
To create and secure your account, to confirm and deliver your purchase, to give you access to your files in your library, to email you about your order, and to answer support questions you send us.
We do not sell your information, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask us to.
Who we share it with
Service providers. Our hosting, database and authentication provider, and our transactional email provider.
Merchant of record. Paddle.com, which handles the sale of our products, payments, invoicing, tax compliance and refunds.
Professional advisers (such as accounting support) and authorities where we are required to disclose information by law.
Each recipient receives only what it needs to do its job. We do not sell your information.
Data retention
Account and library data is kept for as long as your account is open. Purchase and order records are kept for up to seven years after the transaction to meet tax and accounting obligations. Support emails are kept for up to two years. Technical logs are kept for a short period (typically up to 90 days). When data is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information: encryption in transit (HTTPS), encryption at rest with our hosting provider, hashed passwords, row-level database access rules so one customer cannot read another's records, purchased files stored in a private bucket served only through short-lived signed links, and access limited to the site owner.
Cookies
We use essential browser storage and cookies only — to keep you signed in and to keep checkout secure. Our payment processor may set cookies during checkout to prevent fraud. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though signing in will not work without the essential ones.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access a copy of your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent for optional marketing. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email behomeschoolingsmart@gmail.com. We respond within one month. Deleting your account also removes access to any files you purchased.
International transfers
Our providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the UK/EEA, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or an adequacy decision.
Children
Accounts are for parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
